Getting around in Qatar



Taxis

Doha now has several Taxi companies, both public and private. The Taxis are turquoise in color and differ by the color of their roofs which resemble each company. You can flag down a Taxi in the street or call +974 44588888 to make an advanced booking (which you will be charged for).

Buses

The public transport bus service is run by Mowasalat. Passengers can obtain a Fare saver smart card or Fare saver Zone Card from the Central Bus Station, Tel. +974 44366053, located in the Al Ghanim area of Doha.

Landmarks/Attractions in Qatar



Souq Waqif

Souq Waqif is one of most famous attractions in Qatar. Literally translated to the "standing market”, this shopping destination is renowned for selling traditional garments, spices, handicrafts, and souvenirs. It is also home to restaurants serving cuisines from all over the world including counties such as China, India, Iran, Arabia, Italy, Malaysia and Morocco. Souq Waqif stood the test of time and has recently been restored to its indigenous glory. Till now, thousands of people from across the region frequent this market to purchase traditional goods such as wool, traditional thobes, jewelry, and perfumes. Souq waqif is also a prime location for tourists interested in experiencing special events such as concerts and art galleries.

Katara Cultural Village

The Katara Cultural Village is also one of the main landmarks in Qatar. Museum of Islamic Art

The Museum of the Islamic Arts is  “the must-see” attraction in Qatar. The museum, which opened to the public in December of 2008, showcases a selection of Islamic artifacts that the Qatari Royal Family has been collecting for many years. This collection of artifacts in the museum include islamic items such as ancient pages of the Holy Quran that date back centuries.

City Center

Villagio

Villaggio Mall is located on Al Waab Street right beside the Hyatt Plaza. It is home to many shops, including many famous brands such as H& M, River Island, Zara, Zara Home, Massimo Dutti, Carrefour, Virgin Megastore, Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Ralph Lauren, Burberry, Dior, Tiffany & Co. and Cartier, and Marks & Spencer.  In addition, Villagio offers an indoor theme park, IMAX 3D cinema, and an indoor Ice rink.

Land Mark

Landmark Mall is situated on the North Road and has been extensively extended over the past few years to incorporate a Carrefour outlet and many other outlets too. Land mark has a variety of shops which include Marks & Spencer, BHS, Pull & Bear, Zara, and Mango. Land mark also has a food court, a cinema, and an amusement park.
